In the few days when they're perfectly ripe they drop at a touch, and they don't survive long trips. The best bite can only be had under the tree – which is why we open the orchard for picking.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThree main types ripen one after another: Heitan, deep purple-black, rich and sweet-tart – the backbone of our orchard; Xiaotian, small and lightly sweet; and Dongkui, large and fleshy.
